Today’s technology becomes more like gardening than manufacturing, and like gardening, the harvest will be out of our direct control. To interface with these developments humans will have to rely less on quantitative analysis and predictive models. To harvest the richer qualities of complex living systems, humans will have to develop new methods to understand factors that cannot be measured easily, if they can be measured at all.
