Oron Catts  (b.1967, Finland)

Artist, researcher, curator. His activity focuses on the interaction of design and biologically derived technologies. Co-founder and artistic director of SymbioticA — the Art & Science Collaborative Research Laboratory, School of Anatomy and Human Biology, the University of Western Australia (Perth, Australia). Founder of the Tissue Culture and Art Project (1996), an integrated research within contemporary art involving tissue technologies. The project was represented at a number of contemporary art exhibitions and festivals, including the following ones: Bienal de Artes Visuais do Mercosul (Porto Alegre, 1999), Ars Electronica (Linz, 2000, 2001), Deluxe Media Art (Sydney, 2000), Adelaide Biennale of Australian Arts (Adelaide, 2002), European Media Art Festival (Osnabrueck, 2003), Adelaide International Arts Festival (Adelaide, 2004), Biennale of Electronic Arts (Perth, 2004) and others. His writings on wet media were published in scientific and art magazines, incl. «Tissue Engineering» (Vol. 6 No. 6, 2000), «Thresholds Magazine» (No.24, 2002), «Leonardo Magazine» (35:4, 2002) and others. Took part in international contemporary art conferences in USA, Canada, France, Austria, Great Britain and others. Lectures, presentations and BioTech Art Workshops conducted at museum venues and such educational institutions as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston), the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago), the Oxford University (Oxford) and others. Research fellow at the Tissue Engineering & Organ Fabrication Laboratory, the Massachusetts General Hospital, the Harvard Medical School (2000-2001, USA). Organizer and curator of the international exhibitions «BioFeel» (2002), «BioDifference» (2004) and the scientific symposiums within the frameworks of Biennale of Electronic Arts (Perth, Australia). Golden Nica Award Winner, Ars Electronica International Competition for Hybrid Arts (2007, Austria).
