Natasha Vita-More (b.1950, New York, USA)
Artist, researcher. Graduated with a BFA in 1973 from the University of Memphis, and MS in 2006 from the University of Houston. Her research focuses on extreme strategies of human body constructing. She has been the focus of 10 solo exhibitions. Vita-More’s artworks have been showcased at institutions such as the Brooks Memorial Museum (Memphis), the London Contemporary Museum (London), the Akus Gallery (New York), the Kyoto Convention Center (Kyoto) and the Memphis Art Academy (Memphis), as well as in the framework of the Telluride Film Festival and the United States Film Festival. Her works Primo Posthuman and Human2/ExLifeX were covered by diverse media, including Wired, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report and Village Voice. Vita-More is the author of culture and new technology articles published in Nanotechnology Perceptions (2006), Annual Workshop on Geoethical Nanotechnology (2005), Technoetic Arts (2004), Cryonics (2001) and Extropy (1996). Between 2000-2006, Vita-More was President of the Extropy Institute. She acted as Concept Consultant for a number of organizations, among them: the Telluride Institute, the World Future Society, the Center for Responsible Nanotechnology and IBM-corporation; she was Media Consultant for BBC, Discovery, TLC, PBS and Mitsubishi. As an actress, Vita-More starred in movies such as Six Shots (directed by Francis Ford Coppola, 1982), Murphy's Law (directed by J. Lee Thompson, 1986), Blue Pearl (directed by M. Albert, 1996). She is a board member of the LifeBoat Foundation and the Alcor Foundation, and a correspondent member of the Foresight Nanotech Institute. Vita-More is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Plymouth (UK).
