
Floris Kaayk (b.1982, Tiel, the Netherlands)
Artist. Graduated in Computer Animation from the Academy of Art and Design in Breda (the Netherlands) in 2006. His research focuses on the effects of new technologies on the environment and models the possible consequences of scientific and technological advance. Kaayk’s movies include: Duet (2004), Swim (2005), The Order Electrus (2005), Metalosis Maligna (2006), and Worms (2007). His works have been presented at various international animated film festivals including the International Film Festival (Gent, 2005), the International Film Festival (Jakarta, 2005), SICAF, International Animation & Cartoon Festival (Seoul, 2006), the International Festival of Animated Film (Stuttgart, 2006, 2007), STRP, Art and Technology Festival (Eindhoven, 2006), Resfest Dutchmix (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, 2006), Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival (Amsterdam, 2007), SYNCH Festival (Athens, 2007) and the International Documentary Festival (Amsterdam, 2007). Kyaak has participated in contemporary art exhibitions in the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland and in festivals such as the Nederland’s Film Festival (2005), Holland Animation Film Festival (2006), Dutch Film Festival (2006), Odense, the International Film Festival (2006), Festroia, the International Film Festival (2006) and the Pompidou Center in Paris (2007). He won the Best Local Digital Short (Playground Festival, Tilburg, 2006), New Dutch Talent Award (Amsterdam Film Experience, Amsterdam, 2006), ISMAF Award (Media Art Friesland Festival, Leeuwarden, 2006) and Talent & Pro Award (Nederland’s Film Festival, Utrecht, 2006). Kaayk is currently pursuing his MFA at the Sandberg Institute (Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
